The Jazz Mandolin Project versionean a Neil Young

El grupo The Jazz Mandolin Project editó en el sello discográfico Lenapee Records/DKE Records (2005), un album bajo el título del tema de Neil Young (que aparece en el recopilatorio Decade), The Deep Forbidden Lake, versioneando temas pertenecientes a compositores de jazz (Django Reinhardt, Horace Silver, etc.) como del rock (Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, etc.). En él se incluyen dos temas de Neil, Winterlong y el que da título al album.

Dice la crítica que ‘si un piano es un mundo, dos pueden ser un universo’ (Revista Jaç, Nº 11, Estiu 2006). Estos dos grandes pianistas además de proporcionarnos un gran trabajo discográfico titulado ‘No Choice’ (2006 Minuim Records) nos regalan una versión de Neil Young muy personal. Nada más y nada menos que The Needle and Damage Done, además de otros estándards de compositores como Duke Ellington, Miles Davis o de Ornette Coleman. Trabajo grabado en dos dias, 23 y 24 de enero, en los estudios de La Buissone de Perner le Fontaines en Francia.

Un Neil Young psicodélico de la mano de The Golden Smog

Jeff Tweedy de Wilco, Dan Murphy de Soul Asylum, Jody Stephens de Big Star y Gary Louris, Marc Perlman y Kraig Jarret Johnson de The Jayhawks, son los miembros de The Golden Smog, una banda norteamericana que acaba de poner en circulación este verano su último disco, después de estar varios años desaparecidos. El disco en cuestión se titula “Another Fine Day” y ha sido en parte gestado en Andalucía (Gary Louris posee una casa en El Puerto de Santamaría) con la colaboración de Paco Loco.

En palabras del propio Louris... “siempre me gustaron los Beatles, pero creo que este disco avanza también en otras direcciones. Es algo que se podría describir como Neil Young encuentra a Pink Floyd”

Aunque el disco es del año 2004 y por tanto, no es una noticia de actualidad, me gustaría dejar caer por aquí su disco ”Hymns of the 49th parallel”, al que la cantante canadiense calificó como su “banda sonora canadiense, su tejido cultural”.

Bueno amigo y amiga, lo único bueno que tiene acabar las vacaciones es volver a encontrarme contigo de nuevo. Y en mi maleta te he traído un pequeño obsequio: todos los vídeos que Neil ha grabado de las canciones de su último disco.
