Música y política: Vote For Change Tour

¿Yo? ¡Ni hago ni quiero saber nada de política!

¿Cuantas veces has escuchado esta frase? ¿Tropecientos mil millones? Pues te puedo asegurar que el 99,99% de veces la persona en cuestión iba totalmente desorientada.
Quizás si hubiera dicho que estaba harta de partidos políticos (o de políticos con nombre y apellidos) sería otra cosa. Pero política, lo que se dice política, la hacemos hasta cuando estamos dormidos. Es algo que acompañará siempre a las personas desde el momento en que decidimos vivir en comunidad, allá por el origen de la Humanidad: cualquier cosa que hagas o digas (o que no hagas o no digas) afectará los demás. Nos guste o no. Queramos o no.

Y ¿a qué viene esto? Pues a que los músicos no van se van a librar de hacer política. Y el nuestro, menos que nadie. Ya lo ha demostrado en cuantas ocasiones anteriores ha tenido ocasión. Incluso con "meteduras de pata" que nos dejó a todos descolocados: "Si nos odias, no sabes que es lo que estás diciendo" canta en "Hawks & Doves".

Aunque eso ya está superado, afortunadamente.Entonces la situación era... como más borrosa, más complicada.
Hoy lo tenemos más claro y tenemos el mundo dividido entre Personas Buenas y Malas. Sí, no pongas esa cara de incrédulo. No hay más. Buenos y Malos.

Te explico mi punto de vista. Verás. Yo no conozco más que dos tipos de personas: los que queremos hacer las cosas bien y los que quieren hacer las cosas mal. Claro como el agua ¿no?
Tómate tu tiempo.
Medita.
¿Vale?
¿Sigo?

Los que queremos hacer las cosas bien no tenemos más remedio que querer un mundo para todos, porque los Malos lo quieren para ellos solos, lógicamente.
Nosotros, los Buenos, tenemos siempre presentes a las personas ante todo. Los Malos, ante todo, lo que tienen siempre presente es su bolsa. Eso lo vemos a diario.
Y eso tiene que ser así por dos motivos. Entre los Buenos pensamos que el Poder reside en las personas y que tenemos la obligación de conservarlo y cuidarlo, y que no hay mejor herramienta para eso que las ideas. Cuida, alimenta, limpia y reproduce tus ideas y estarás contribuyendo a la Humanidad. Sencillo (jeje).
Entre los Malos se cree en el dinero como garantía de Poder. Cultivan ante todo Dinero. Con él pretender comprar después Poder (en sus variantes política, económica, religiosa o militar).

Y esto tan sencillo es el Juego del Mundo. Y a este juego todos jugamos, queramos o no. Basta con existir. Unos juegan más y otros menos. Unos con más intensidad y otros de refilón. Pero de él, nadie se libra.

Y ¿a dónde quiero ir a parar? Pues a que este año es año de elecciones en los USA y allí se juega este juego con fuerza.
Ya sé, ya sé... pero a nosotros SÍ nos importa, aunque no depositemos un solo voto. Piensa en quién aprieta los botones después.
Está claro que en Europa, el candidato republicano, pasaría por un líder ultraconservador y el demócrata no pasaría de un conservador clásico, pero entre que te estén pisando los c... callos permanentemente y que te los pisen de higos a brevas, pues yo me quedo con lo segundo.
Por eso, si yo no tuviera más remedio que votar allí, no me lo pensaría dos veces.


Y ¿a que viene todo este ladrillo?
Pues a que me gustaría decirte que a lo mejor este año es posible que tengamos un Vote For Change Tour al estilo del que ya tuvimos en 2004. Y como me parecía poco decirte esto solo, pues lo he completado con lo anterior.

He rebuscado por ahí y me he encontrado los 7 conciertos que se dieron en torno al Vote For Change Tour 2004. Uno de Neil Young solo, dos de Bruce Springsteen (el mismo en versión DVD y audio), dos de Dave Matthews Band y dos de Pearl Jam.

I pulled this out for a trade, started watching it again, and figured there might be some demand for it. The DVD is extremely professional - up to the high standards of ScrewMonkey. It's filmed off the big screen, and the audio is great to my ears.
Listen to Neil rain fire from the sky on Souls Of The Departed. You can hear a voice say ""It doesn't get much better than that"" - and then it does.
(Coincidentally, I had tickets to this show I gave away after I got tickets to the DC finale. Bad move on my part . . .)
It's not the whole show - The Star Spangled Banner, Born In The U.S.A. and the finale of Peach, Love And Understanding are gone, but who cares? What is left is fantastic. If you don't have this - just get it.

Just downloaded this one from ABMS, burned it and listened to it. To me, it sounds good - at least as good as the recent Cleveland VFC. The performance seems tighter, too.
If you haven't heard yet, this show features a guest appearance by a ""Canadian for Kerry"", Neil Young, on three songs. And good tunes they are.

Big, big show with Neil Young heard soundchecking with the band. Toward the start of the show, Ed quote some statistics: ""Four percent of the whole US population is in Ohio. You account for 25% of the jobs that have been lost in the last four years. That's staggering. And this is a swing state?"" At the end of the acoustic set, Ed says something about a friend ""... who came a long way, I thought to see us, but really I think he came out to see you"" and Neil and Pegi Young take the stage. 'Harvest Moon' ends the acoustic set and is just Ed and Pegi on vocals with Neil playing acoustic guitar. The encore songs include Neil (obviously) and the final three songs also include Neil's wife Pegi, plus Peter Frampton For 'Act of Love,' Ed and Pegi stand to one side providing vocals, with Neil fronting. Neil tells the crowd to get friends registered to vote and ""... maybe we can turn this whole thing around.""
