Como lo oyes ¿qué pensabas? Ahora que los primeros playeros afortunados tienen en su poder la caja de los Neil Young Archives Volume 1, es posible que alguno se nos pierda entre tanta y tanta información, o que no encuentre esas pistas ocultas, o que no sepa que en tal sitio hay tal videoclip o tal información.

This is a guide to The Blu Ray Edition of The Archives. It should be largely accurate for The DVD edition as the content is reportedly identical between the two. Where navigational deltas exist, they will be noted. The reason for the existence of this guide is that there is no official reference which details all of the contents of this set. La primera crónica de este tour le ha correspondido a Jon Bream del Star Tribune.

Fue una función terrible de Neil Young, comenzando con el rock estruendoso favorito, seguido de regalos acústicos más tranquilos, tres números eléctricos nuevos no grabados aun y una llamarada de su "ragged glory" al final, concluyendo con el "A Day in the Life" de los Beatles y con las cuerdas de la Old Black rotas y deshilachadas, con el sonido todavía resonando y reverberando.

Estas dos horas de actuación, 18 canciones, fue más satisfactoria que el concierto de dos sets (una parte acústica solo, otra eléctrica con el grupo) en noviembre pasado en Northrop Auditorium. El año pasado, eligió números más oscuros que atrajeron a seguidores más duros; anoche, trabajando con una banda diferente a la de 2007, fue principalmente complaciente con el grueso de fans de todas las edades, que le ovacionaron salvajemente.

Y este es el repertorio. Como verás ninguna sorpresa. Por ahora es una continuación del tour europeo.

Claro que el libro de Pete Long da como desconocido el primer set del segundo día, por lo que de allí puede salir cualquier cosa, sobre todo un Cowgirl In The Sand o un Down By The River que eran habituales de los conciertos de esos días, o algunas más desconocidas como esa Whiskey Boot Hill o The 1956 Bubblegum Disaster que fueron interpretadas en el concierto del Riverboat del 9 de Febrero, por decir alguna cosa.

Y al hilo de este disco. Mira lo que dicen Edna Gundersen y Donna Freydkin en USA TODAY:

Seis meses después de dejar Buffalo Springfield y cinco días antes de su 23 cumpleaños, Neil Young realizó un test a su habilidad como solista, llegando solamente con una guitarra y un grabador TEAC de dos pistas a su concierto en Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Impresionante todo. No tengo adjetivos para las tres últimas canciones.
Precioso concierto. Un recinto pequeño al aire libre, amenazando lluvia pero al final no llovió. Todo perfecto excepto una cosa, a mi modesto enteder los alemanes son muy fríos. Repito, muy fríos.

Mi rustie preferida ShariTO (Sharry Wilson, de Toronto, gracias) ha viajado esta semana por Francia por asuntos personales (su marido era entrevistado sobre un libro del que es autor) y como buena rustie curiosa, mira lo que encontró en un tablón de anuncios de la mismísima Radio France:
Ahora estoy en un dilema. No me aclaro si es que Neil Young necesita un bajista o tiene que ser un bajista que domine el repertorio del Tío. Y por si fuera poco, ¿debe llamarse Paul Mac Cartney?. No sé, pero me parece que así no lo van a encontrar.
